The Drag Queens Remind Me Its That Special Time Of Year
Are you watching Ru Paul’s Drag Race UK?
I’m bloody loving it! It’s the final tomorrow and I can’t wait!
In case you’re not familiar with the programme… (where have you been?!?) It’s an American show that’s ventured across the pond for a UK season. Drag Queens compete for the title of Next Drag Superstar by showcasing their array of Drag Queen skills – including but not limited too: costume design, make-up, dancing, catwalks, and of course lip-syncing for… your…. life!!
In and amongst the glamour, false eyelashes and heels, each week the group have a meaningful and insightful chat about their journeys. To no surprise, a lot of them say that they found by dressing in Drag it gives them confidence. And by taking to the stage and putting it out into the world – although not without it’s nerves – is a strong way to be themselves, to respect themselves and to show the world how bright they can shine. On stage is a place to sparkle and way to love yourself.
I found this really resonated with me. Except replace drag with pole. Pole gives me that same confidence. And by putting on a show and putting it out into the world, it feels like a way to celebrate what we can do and be proud of who we are and our hard work. This is why I put on the Christmas Showcase each year. So we can shine and sparkle bright. So with Christmas round the corner, let’s roll up our sleeves and put on a show to remember! BRING IT ON!
“If you don’t love yourself, how the hell are you gonna love somebody else?” Amen!
